Beginners bookbinding with Woodle Books.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those who may have
dabbled during their university course.
Learn how to make books with Aimee from Woodle Books. Aimee has been
bookbinding since 2012 and has worked for the Royal Collection at Windsor
Castle and prestigious London Book Binders.
Woodle Books was started in 2017 when Aimee decided she wanted more
freedom to do the work she wanted. Now specialising in handmade
notebooks and private conservation work she was also commissioned to
write a book during the Lockdown years. Sharing her passion for book
binding with the wider world has been very rewarding. Bookbinding is a
craft not a lot of people know is achievable at home with a few simple tools.
During the workshop you will be taught how to fold and manipulate paper
and why grain direction is so important and how it’s recognised. You will get
to choose the bookbinding cloth you cover your book with and get to
choose the endpapers as well. A few trade secrets will be shared, including
how to lock your thread onto your needle. All materials and specialist tools
will be provided for you. At the end of the workshop you will have an A6,
170GSM, plain paper, single section notebook and the skills to go ahead
and make more.
