4th December – 20th February 2016
The exhibition of paintings and glass intertwined. The works mark an evolution from working with ancient (Medieval) glass, breaking with pictorial realism, emphasising the physical material from the opaque pigment of works on canvas and paper through fired glass pigments to the colour translucency of blown glasses.
Glass shown with and without the traditional lead matrix focuses on it’s translucency and gives it back it’s primary function – bringing the light in and changing the atmosphere.
The recent paintings are in many ways rooted in this environment. The landscape of coast, marshes, beaches, skies and the river Stour, expressing the drama of the changes in season and atmosphere – the paint indirectly expressing these elements.
